Is Your Appliance Ready for Thanksgiving

How to Clean or Prep Crucial Kitchen Appliances for Thanksgiving Day?

Before worrying about the upcoming winter holiday festivities, is your appliance ready for Thanksgiving? The kitchen is about to get quite hectic as the end-of-November event approaches, and extensive appliance usage awaits the massive cooking tasks.

The holidays can be the most wonderful time of the year or the most trying, depending on your outlook. If we can manage to keep our stress levels down, this holiday season might well turn out to be one of the best we have ever had. Planning and preparation are what will set the mood for the upcoming holidays.

Keep reading to know what steps to take to achieve a seamless holiday workflow.

We are all aware that during the Thanksgiving holiday, people gather together with their loved ones to share a feast they have prepared themselves. The range is probably one of the first things you think of when planning a feast, but that’s not all.

Pay special attention to these appliances leading up to the big day, as the party’s success highly depends on them:

Oven/Range

After some time without cleaning, the bottom of your range will likely be scorched from spilled food. If your oven is electric, unplug it first since water squirted into the knobs or other water-sensitive areas might do serious damage and require a last-minute range repair.

  • To start, detach the racks from your oven and clean them individually with dish soap or a natural cleaning solution.
  • Once you have turned your attention to the interiors of your oven and think you will have difficulties removing grime, you might try warming the oven to a low temperature to make wiping easier.
  • Switch the oven off and let it cool first before scrubbing the interiors with a damp cloth.
  • Preferably, use a foaming solution of vinegar and baking soda to remove burned crust from the bottom of the oven up.
  • Finish the task by giving another scrub using warm water.

Refrigerator

Preparing for Thanksgiving means clearing up some space in the fridge and pantry. It is a good time to toss or finish up any food close to expiration and empty almost dry bottles. By eliminating any lingering scents, you can ensure that your food tastes its best after thoroughly cleaning your refrigerator.

Take out the trays, wash them in a separate sink, and use a solution of white vinegar and water to clean the inside. If you have any problem spots, use baking soda to remove them.

Microwave

Whether you are still in the kitchen doing final preparations or have already started serving guests, you will use the microwave at some point to defrost or cook food. It’s also possible that your guests may bring food that needs to be heated.

There is a common practice that involves using steam to clean the microwave. Just like you would with your dishwasher, heat a bowl of vinegar in the microwave on high for 5 minutes to kill any bacteria. When the alarm sounds, get a damp towel and wipe away the residue. It is also a good idea to wipe the central disk by itself.

Dishwasher

At the end of the meal, you will have a lot of dirty dishes, so it is a good idea to have an empty and freshly filled dishwasher in case guests are kind enough to leave their washed plates here for you.

The dishwasher is simple to maintain and clean. Put a bowl of white vinegar on the top shelf of your machine, and run a hot cycle. After a cycle has finished and you see grime accumulation in the bottom, put baking soda in the area, and let it soak for a while before scrubbing. If the dishes still smell strong after washing, spray them with lemon juice.

It is never easy preparing for the holidays, especially when you have the kitchen all to yourself. The bottom line, it is not even just about preparing these days; we also have to deal with the aftermath, which could be equally draining and challenging.
